6 Must-Haves for Pregnancy

It is so easy to get caught in the consumerism trap of pregnancy. Social media is constantly bombarding us with product recommendations to make this season of life "better". In our family, we are working to earn, budget, save and invest our money for the long-term, rather than buy many items on a whim. This blog is going to be the top 6 items that have truly added value to my & my clients’ lives during pregnancy.

  1. A good maternity/nursing bra. This is a place where I have spent and wasted money time and time again. I will buy a bra on sale and find that it pokes and pulls, or won't hold me in all the right places. I have had 3 kiddos and have spent about 8 years of my life breastfeeding, so I have definitely had time for trial and error! My breasts are the first things to start changing during my pregnancy and become quite sore, so adequate support is definitely welcomed. The most comfortable bra I have found that actually gives appropriate shape and support is from Kindred Bravely.

  2. Maternity Jeans. I have purchased several pairs of maternity jeans throughout my pregnancies. Having at least one pair that feels classic, versatile, and comfortable can make you feel somewhat human. My favorite pair are from H&M, but fit and maternity panel preferences are very unique.

  3. Body Pillow. Oh my goodness! With a changing body, it can be challenging to find a comfortable sleeping position and adequate support with a growing belly. I recommend a U-Shaped pillow. It is fantastic for supporting hips, legs, shoulders, and neck. I like this pillow because it has a detachable extension to minimize the space it takes in bed.

  4. Essential Oils-- I truly don't know how I survived life pre-essential oils. I use oils for everything. Soothing stretching skin, pregnancy discomfort, mood swings, insomnia... just to name a few. The book Gentle Babies by Debra Raybern is a great resource for learning how to use oils during all stages of pregnancy.

  5. Prenatal Yoga- Yoga is a great way to support your body during pregnancy. It helps facilitate calmness of mind, breath, and body awareness and supports your body mechanics as the baby grows and develops. Yoga is also a great way to optimize the position of the baby for labor and delivery.

  6. And last but not least— a doula and childbirth education— Knowing what to expect and having support for your choices is truly a very wise investment. It is important to find a doula and childbirth educator who resonates with you, but having that person for both you and your partner can reduce the risk of cesarean and more!
